Benchmarking

Comparing patient outcomes worldwide to drive healthcare improvement

Globe Program

The Global Health Outcomes Benchmarking (GLOBE) pilot program aims to provide risk-adjusted, benchmarks on patient outcomes across multiple hospital sites, using the ICHOM Standard Sets.
The program has four main objectives:

  • Assess the utility of ICHOM Standard Sets for benchmarking outcomes globally
  • Validate risk adjustment methodologies so that patient outcomes can be adjusted between sites
  • Deliver risk-adjusted outcomes to participating institutions/hospitals in a data visualization format so that they can understand their relative performance
  • Determine how pilot sites can use comparative outcomes data to learn from each other

Map of the Globe Program

More than 35 sites and institutions have enrolled in the GLOBE program for Cataracts (CAT) and Hip & Knee Osteoarthritis (HKO). See the map below for participating sites.

GLOBE PART 2

  • Assess the appropriateness of ICHOM Standard Sets for benchmarking and incorporate the required changes
  • Design and validate risk adjustment methodologies to adequately adjust participant outcomes between sites
  • Deliver risk-adjusted outcomes to participating institutions/hospitals in a user friendly format so that they can understand their relative performance
  • Determine how pilot sites can leverage outcomes data to learn from one another
