The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) has today announced the launch of its Patient-Centered Outcome Measures for Major Injuries, a globally developed standard designed to capture what truly matters to patients recovering from major trauma.
Developed through a year-long collaboration of clinicians, researchers, and individuals with lived experience, the new Set offers a framework for measuring physical, social, and emotional wellbeing across care pathways and healthcare systems. Its aim: to support improved clinical decision-making, inform payment reform, and enhance quality of life for patients worldwide.
Major injuries are a significant public health concern, contributing to long-term disability and impacting tens of millions of people each year globally. This new Set responds directly to that challenge, equipping providers with standardized tools for tracking outcomes and driving care improvement.
“The co-creation of ICHOM Sets with patients is critical to their real-world relevance,” said Jennifer Bright, President of ICHOM. “This resource is designed to support patient-centered dialogue, better clinical pathways, and smarter system-wide reform.”
With this release, ICHOM now offers standardized Sets across 47 disease areas, covering nearly 60% of the global disease burden, and is being implemented in over 500 care settings across 42+ countries.
